Letworks · est. with a book
Letworks makes small, focused apps: Leaflet for the books you read, Wavelet for the podcasts and audiobooks you listen to, and Hamlet for serving your whole media library from your own machine. They all do the same job: take the files and feeds on your device and turn them into something worth using.
No accounts, no algorithmic feeds, nothing to subscribe to inside the apps. Your library is yours; the apps just open it well.
One for reading, one for listening, one for hosting. Not a bloated everything-app, and not a separate app for every whim either. Each is small, focused, and built for a single job.
An ebook reader that opens the books you already have. EPUB, TXT, MOBI and AZW3 today, with PDF reading up next. Real pages, proper typesetting, your place kept in every book.
One player for everything you listen to. Podcasts come in by RSS, audiobooks as your own files. Two libraries on the same player, downloads kept offline, and nothing recommended to you, ever.
A self-hosted audiobook, podcast and ebook server with a web client. Point it at your files, open a browser, and your whole library is there: chapters, covers, positions synced across devices.
The same four rules apply to every app, current and future.
Leaflet and Wavelet work in airplane mode; Hamlet runs on your own hardware. In every case, your files stay yours and nothing phones home.
The apps read the files and feeds you give them, and there's nothing to sign up for to use them. A couple offer optional cloud sync (Google Drive, or your own Hamlet server) if you want it, but nothing is required to open a book or play a show.
A reader reads, a player plays. Keeping each app small keeps it fast, and keeps its settings screen shorter than a chapter.
Standard formats in, standard formats out. If you stop using a Letworks app tomorrow, your library walks out with you, untouched.
Leaflet and Wavelet are both out now for Android, free while in development. Hamlet will show up here when it's worth showing.
